1 1/2 cups cooked black beans
There are 3 options to make black beans. Choose 1:
1) Soak 1 lb. dried black beans in bowl of water overnight. Drain. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Add beans and simmer 1-2 hours, until tender. Store the beans in cooking liquid.
2) Rinse 1 lb. dried black beans. Add to slow cooker. Cover with water by 2 inches. Cover slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, until tender. Store beans in cooking liquid.
3) Open 15 oz. can of low-sodium black beans. Drain and rinse.
After step 1, 2, OR 3… Cool slightly and blend beans and 1/4 cup cooking liquid until desired consistency. Add water as needed to blend.
